Outbreak of COVID-19 in Malaysia
A month ago, I helped my cousin to design their own disinfectant and deodorant product. And at that time, 21st of Feb 2020, there are only 22 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Malaysia. Most of the Malaysians were aware that the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19.
Everyone should take the highest level of hygiene and avoid any mass public gathering, but there is always an exception.
Sri Petaling Mosque Event
About 16,000 people, included Malaysians and foreigners, attended a tabligh missionary convention at Mosque Sri Petaling from 27th of February to 1st of March. One of the foreigners, Bruneian, was found to be infected with COVID-19. Although the government quickly conducted a mass screening for the participants of the event, it was already spread widely in Malaysia. Since then, the COVID-19 cases dramatically increasing from 22 cases to 1300 over cases in just a month. (About 788 cases are from the event at Mosque Sri Petaling, based on the latest update on 23th of March)
The Malaysian Government Movement Control Order (MCO)
On 16th of March, the Prime Minister of Malaysia Muhyiddin Yassin made a televised speech and officially announced Movement Control Order (MCO) started from 18th of March to end of March. (14th days of MCO)
Basically, it is a kind of “partial lockdown”, prohibition of all mass gatherings, restrictions on all tourists and foreigners into the country, closure of schools and closure of most of the government and private premises. You could get the full details of MCO here:
